“In 1984 I completed my Bachelor of Dentistry and graduated from the University of Western Australia (Perth). Following my graduation, I spent 15 years in the Pilbara region of North West WA, running my own 3 man private practice, based in the country town of Karratha. Being 1500km away from Perth made it demanding professionally but it also made me grow and learn very quickly.

In 1988 we moved from the country to Brisbane and in 2000 I bought my own practice in Wickham Tce. I later moved into a consultancy role, including consulting as a senior dentist in Bundaberg, Upper Coomera and several practices in Brisbane. I’ve now returned to set up my own practice- Smile Dentist Brisbane, as these words embody my mission statement, my philosophy, why I go to work, what I strive to give in my work and life and what I hope it means to everyone who comes into contact with my practice.

I graduated with honours from the University of Queensland in 2014.

Following graduation, I worked briefly in full-time private practice but the desire to learn more and keeping up-to-date with the latest happenings in the dental world drew me back to the university as a post-graduate student.

I am currently researching a new dental bio-material that will hopefully improve the outcomes of root-canal therapy. I am also privileged to be involved in the training of future dentists at the university which is an activity I enjoy.

Despite the busy life as a student, I chose to maintain private practice because seeing patients is the highlight of my day and a chance for me to put the skills I have acquired to help someone. I believe dentistry is not just a trade but rather a relationship with a patient that extends far beyond teeth alone.

Ratna Rashid has been involved with Smile Dentist Brisbane since the beginning. Coming from a background of Accounting and Business management, Ratna has been involved in running dental practices (as well as other businesses) for the past 25 years .

She is very passionate about health and believes that everyone should be able to access the best dental treatment to enable them to live a healthy, comfortable and confident life. So, she takes a very strong, personal interest in being aware of patients needs and issues they face and works hard to deliver it to them. You will often see Ratna at our reception, greeting and talking to patients.

Ratna looks after all the support systems and services provision for Smile Dentist Brisbane, but says the best part of her work is hearing about the successes and life changing stories (and pictures) from our patients!
